There are mornings in the woods when the sky holds its breath, and everything is bathed in a soft, metallic hues. Copper Sunrise was born from one of those mornings—a memory pressed between trees, where the light danced and I felt my breath deep for the first time in days.
I breathe easier in the trees. Always have. There’s a deep comfort in their shadows; in the way they stand guard without asking anything of me. The copper glow of sunrise through their branches feels like a quiet blessing—warm, fleeting, and powerful. That wild moment, just before the day begins in full, inspired this piece.
This painting began with an acrylic base—my usual way of grounding. Over it, I built layers with oil and cold wax, working intuitively, letting the textures emerge. The process was raw, subtractive, free. I scraped, revealed, and uncovered the light beneath. It felt less like painting and more like listening—letting the landscape speak through my hands.
