Promises to the Moon

Promises to the Moon
I woke confused when the moon tapped my shoulder in the middle of the night
Full and clear, at first, she felt like an old companion reaching out from far away
I sat up to fully take her in and she spoke not as an old companion but a new me beckoning for connection
This new self wants to witness and be witnessed
She is familiar but altered
A clarity of purpose shines in her eyes
She asked me to stop carrying the weight of dissatisfaction
She asked me to let go of doubt
She asked me to release my protections from vulnerability
She required a promise before I could close my eyes again
Promise to allow your whole self to be seen
As I do now, full and clear and shining bright
No more hiding, no more wishing for something different, no more silencing your voice, no more apologizing, no more self-abandonment, no more self-criticism, no more self-doubt, no more self-sacrifice, no more fear of judgment, no more regret, no more smiling when you don’t really want to smile.
I promise
I woke when the moon refused to be ignored
I slept in peace after
I woke again as the sun joined the moon
Something has changed I can feel it in my bones
I smiled
